Temple rituals are at the heart of the festivities, with devotees offering special dishes to the monks and reciting prayers for the repose of their ancestors' souls. According to belief, Pchum Ben is also the time when wandering spirits, those whose souls have not found rest, wander the earth. Food offerings are intended to appease these spirits and guide them to peace.
Families gather for special ceremonies, strengthening family ties and perpetuating traditions.
