Boun Makha Boussa

A Buddhist celebration held in Asian countries including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. The date of Boun Makha Boussa corresponds to the full moon of the third month of the Buddhist lunar calendar.

Boun Makha Boussa commemorates a special event in Buddha's life. According to tradition, on the full moon of Makha (the third lunar month), 1,250 monks spontaneously went to the place where Buddha was, without any prior planning. This gathering led to the first proclamation of the fundamental principles of Buddhism.

Boun Visakha Boussa is one of the most important and respected Buddhist celebrations. It commemorates three major events in the life of Gautama Buddha, which are supposed to have taken place on the full moon of the month of Visakha (Vaisakha), usually in May.

The three events celebrated during Boun Visakha Boussa are the Buddha's birth, his enlightenment (Awakening), and his death (Parinirvana). 

Boun Visakha Boussa festivities usually include ceremonies in Buddhist temples, torchlight processions, prayers and meditations.

Devotees pay homage to Buddha by making offerings in the temples.

Boun Ok Phansa, also known as the End of Buddhist Lent ceremony, is a major celebration in Laos, Thailand and other Buddhist regions. It marks the end of the rainy season and of Lent, a period during which monks retire to monasteries for meditation and study.

The Boun Ok Phansa celebration, which takes place in October, begins with religious ceremonies in the temples, where the faithful offer gifts and take part in prayers.

Monks, who have been observing Lent, emerge from the monasteries to be welcomed by the community with offerings of food and necessities.
